Ten Fun Facts About Me

Yes, I know, today’s blog post is limited to just TEN weird little gems, but hey, no one likes a bore rabbiting on about their life right? I remember once complaining to a teacher that I couldn’t possibly write anything interesting about my life in the daily journal we had as part of our school day, and dear Mr Spencer just burst out laughing and walked away. So, without further preamble, here we go:

1 – I memorised and recited the Book Of Habakkuk to earn the Silver Apple Award at school.  Yep, it was a strict Christian education situation and very USA flavoured.  It’s highly likely I chose that book because of the minimal three chapters, not for the enlightening prophecy held within.

2 – I got right up to Black Belt in Kempo Karate.  Long and short staff, nunchucks, sai, tonfa.  The Sai were my weapon of choice.  Pretty mean with chopsticks too.

3 – Simple knitting and embroidery are my go to hobbies for chilling out, de-stressing, and procrastinating from the real work of writing.

4 – My sister and I must have watched Dirty Dancing 100 times on VHS and wore out the tape with all the rewinding and slow motion playing of Johnny giving Baby dance lessons as we tried to pick up the steps. We could probably recite the dialogue for the entire movie today.  Still can’t dance though.

5 – I know when it’s about to rain because my left arm will start to ache, right in the spot where it was broken at the age of 11.

6 – I’m terrified of opening my eyes under water, especially in a swimming pool.  They’ll be squeezed tight shut in the ocean too.  Lakes – definitely a no go for swimming.  Whether it’s the filter system in a pool or the creepy crawlies in underwater nature, I can’t handle my vivid imagination – think being sucked into the pool cracks or being eaten alive by eels, crabs, spiky fish …

7 – More of the vivid imagination – Pierce Brosnan was my teenage pin-up.  Blame Remington Steele (and who didn’t want to be Laura Holt?).  My fourth form English descriptive essay was all about him.  How my teacher must have chuckled at that one.

8 – Despite drinking my weight in Starbucks coffee every day when I lived in London, I can’t bear to even go into a Starbucks now.  Quality over quantity is all I can say.

9 – When you live in a country where a 15 year old can legally drive, getting my driver licence at the ripe old age of 20 is what we term ‘a late bloomer’.

10 – And one last fun, weird fact you might not know – I drink my single malt whiskey straight. No ice, and definitely no soda or cola.

Laura Holt and Remington Steele, at their best

So, now that I’ve shared my deep dark secrets (not all, gentle reader, not all), it’s your turn. Tell me something fun or weird about you, and remember, Mr Spencer said there’s always something interesting in everyone’s life!

  1. Well…that was fun reading. Thankyou for sharing.  Glad to hear that you are over Starbucks and progressed to finer coffee.
